Amazon STEALS FROM ITs WORKERS
Hulu Garment, a sewing facility supplying adidas, Amazon, Walmart, Macy’s, and LT Apparel Group located in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, suspended its entire workforce of 1,020 workers at the beginning of March 2020 when Covid-19 started hitting global supply chains.
As the end of the suspension period neared, management called workers in and told them on April 22nd that, due to the pandemic, the factory had no orders and may need to lay off workers. Instead of paying workers their legally owed severance, the factory tricked workers into signing their resignations, buried among information about their payslips.
Years later, 500 workers continue to demand payment of the over US$1 million in severance they would be legally owed if they had been fired, because they had been scammed and had not voluntarily resigned.
Amazon, adidas and other brands purchasing from Hulu must come to the table and negotiate a just settlement for workers!
“We had no choice but to first sell our land to repay the bank. We are no longer able to financially support our parents. We used to spend money on food, for a husband and wife to eat three meals it costs around $5 a day. We have had to cut our spending to just $3 a day.”
