Press Reactive: Appointing ex-boss of Amazon UK to lead Competition and Markets Authority is a slap in the face
For immediate release: Wednesday, 4th March
London –
Responding to the appointment of Doug Gurr, ex-boss of Amazon UK to lead the CMA, Labour Behind the Label policy lead Anna Bryher said:
“Appointing the ex-boss of Amazon UK to lead the Competition and Markets Authority is a real slap in the face for those of us fighting for more accountability from Big Tech. After years of watching Amazon ride roughshod over competition rules while workers and communities suffer, this decision sends the wrong message about the seriousness of regulating monopolistic power. People deserve an authority that will stand up to corporate giants, not one led by someone who has spent their career at the helm of one.”
