Levi’s: sign the Pakistan Accord NOW!
The garment industry is plagued by negligence and cost-cutting, and workers are the ones that pay the ultimate price. Garment workers deserve to work in safe conditions. 12 years on from the industry’s deadliest fire, we remember the victims of the Ali Enterprises disaster and we demand action from brands like Levi’s.
Email the CEO of Levi’s and their Sustainability Director to demand action in support of the Pakistan Accord.
Workers in Pakistan and globally campaigned hard to make sure lessons are learned and future disasters prevented. Their 10-year long campaign brought the International Accord for Health and Safety in the Textile and Garment Industry to Pakistan in 2023, to address the issues in the many many factories in Pakistan that have similar safety issues to the Ali Enterprises site. This is a groundbreaking and time-tested programme. We know it will make factories safe in the supply chains of brands that sign the Pakistan programme of the Accord, as it works through inspection, remediation processes, training and a complaints mechanism all with unions’ input.
No-one should die for fashion. Not in Pakistan, and not anywhere.
Levi’s – time to sign!
Since 2023, 128 brands have signed up to the Accord. But shamefully, many household names have not. We call on Levi’s, IKEA, Kontoor Brands (Lee, Wranger), Target USA, and Nike to act. These brands should learn the lessons from this tragedy and finally heed the calls of unions and labour advocates to sign. On this day we take action to remind Levi’s of the responsibility they have for the lives and wellbeing of their workers!
UPDATE: Levi’s signed the Pakistan Accord in October 2024.
